Writer / Director
With a background in sociology, Oskar Weimar has made documentary and narrative films that explore notions of the self and people’s relationship to society. In 2022, he completed a Masters of Film and TV at the Victorian College of the Arts where he developed an iterative, direct approach to filmmaking that involved working with non-professional actors in a collaborative process of improvisation, reflection, and re-working. Oskar’s short films have appeared in international festivals including Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF), Slamdance, and the Florida Film Festival. His first feature film, Nyamula, was shot and produced in Kenya in collaboration with local Kenyan filmmakers and non-professional actors, and premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (2025). With James Litchfield, Oskar Weimar is a co-founder of Melbourne Collective, What Films.
